Coming Home ~ a homage to death

What more sincere
form of surrender
is there
than to truly sit
with the inevitability
that one the day
our bodies
will return to Earth,
indistinguishable
from rock or wood or soil.
Our very molecules
to be ripped apart
by mycelium,
devoured as detritus
and enter back,
elementally incarnated,
into the ancient cycles
of renewal
and regeneration.
Though,
what a tedious practice
it is
of yielding
more and more
with each passing day
to death,
whilst softening
the anxious mind
and grieving heart
by remembering
that death itself
is the source
of all life.
And it takes time
to come home
to this ineffable knowing
that I too,
often forget.
But thankfully,
this great mystery
is teeming
with reminders,
and for me,
illuminating
the utter beauty
of this
undeniable reality
is the inner knowing,
that in many ways
decay
is the deepest expression
of Love
and the greatest form
of intimacy.

Sincerely,
Self
